SLATE

HAND CRAFTED & ENGRAVED IN SCOTLAND

All our engraved slate products (as well as non engraved cheese boards & trays) are treated with a food safe acrylic which enhances the natural contours of the slate and makes each of our products highly water repellent, stain resistant and easy to clean/maintain. We recommend the following care for our engraved slate:

• Clean using a water-based spray cleaner and soft, lint free cloth.

• Do not immerse in water – all our products have a full foam backing to protect your surfaces. If foam backing is to get wet – please allow to fully dry, with foam back facing upwards.

• Do not use in a dishwasher.

• Do not drag sharp knives along the surface - this will cause a white knife line to appear in the acrylic. The appearance of scratches can be reduced by rubbing a small amount of food safe oil into it.

• When your slate shows signs of wear you can revive it by recoating it with a food safe oil. Directions: slate surface must be clean and dry. With a dry, lint free cloth apply thinly along the slate and rub in well. Please note: It is best to avoid applying oil to the engraved design – this will darken the engraved design. If the oil does come into contact with the engraved design, you can apply a Bicarbonate of soda and water paste to the design. Leave for 15mins then wash off and dry. This will draw the oil out of the design and lighten it again.

• Do not leave items such as cheese on the slate for long periods as the moisture can get into the slate and stains may develop.

To remove stains from slate:

Tough stains can be spot cleaned using a a Bicarbonate of soda and water paste. Apply paste to stain, leave for 15 minutes , wash off and dry.

Please note: Non engraved slate place mats / coasters / table runners are treated with a food safe oil. The same care instructions apply.

SCOTTISH OAK

GROWN IN SCOTLAND, MADE IN SCOTLAND

We purchase our oak from a local sawmill which is part of a Scottish Charity – Dynamic Woods. All our Oak holds the Scottish Working Woods label – which is a guarantee that our Oak is Scottish grown wood and that it is from a sustainable source.

All our sustainable oak is treated with a wax-oil which enhances the natural tone of the oak and makes each of our products highly water repellent, stain resistant and easy to clean/maintain. We recommend the following care for our oak:

• Clean using a water-based spray cleaner and soft, lint free cloth.

• Do not leave immersed in water

• Do not use in a dishwasher

• Dry excess water of the oak once you have finished cleaning it. Allow to dry naturally without heat.

• Store the board on a flat surface (not on its edge)

• When your wood shows signs of wear you can revive it by recoating it with wax-oil. Available to buy here. Directions: Wood surface must be clean and dry. Do not thin. Shake before use. With a dry sponge apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well. Allow to dry for approx. 8-10 hours under good ventilation. Allow finish to fully cure before heavy usage.

• Do not leave items such as cheese on the oak for long periods as the moisture can get into the wood and stains may develop.

To remove stains from oak:

Tough stains can be spot cleaned using a more abrasive scourer/sandpaper. Once fully cleaned and dried thinly re-apply wax-oil to area where stain has been removed.

SCOTTISH LINEN

WOVEN IN SCOTLAND USING TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES

Our linen items are made from a linen/cotton mix. All pure cottons and linens mix fabrics shrink marginally after the first wash and some degree of fading of the print will also occur – both can be minimised by pre-washing in cold water. It is useful to note that linens in general have a more lived-in look once laundered. After initial cold water washing we recommend the following care for our linen/cotton mix items:

• Use a mild detergent and wash with similar colours or other linens at 30 degrees. Slow spin.

• Do not tumble dry, bleach or dry clean.

• Dry flat

• Iron on reverse when damp. Linen has a wrinkled lived-in look after it is washed and will get softer over time.

To remove stains from linen:

• Scrape off and soak up any food leftovers from the table linens; Squeeze a generous amount of water-detergent or dish soap all over the stained area. Massage the area gently with a cloth or sponge to break up the stain. For old stains or grease stains, add about 2 spoons of bicarbonate of soda along with the water-detergent or dish soap.

• Leave the covered area for about 15 minutes to soak it up.

• Rinse your tablecloth in cold water before washing.

• After that, put your table linens into the washing machine and wash them as usual.

Storing linen:

Make sure your linens are completely dry to avoid mildew. Natural fibres like linen need to breathe, so it’s best to store them in cool, dry, well-ventilated areas and away from direct sunlight.

OLIVE WOOD

SUSTAINBLY SOURCED AND HAND CRAFTED IN THE MEDITERREAN

• Dry excess water of the wood once you have finished cleaning it. Allow to dry naturally without heat.

• When your wood shows signs of wear you can revive it by recoating it with any food safe oil. Directions: Wood surface must be clean and dry. With a dry sponge apply food safe oil thinly along the wood grain and spread well. Allow to dry.

• Do not leave items such as cheese on the wood for long periods as the moisture can get into the wood and stains may develop.
